SOLO EXHIBITION, THE INCINERATOR ART SPACE, WILLOUGHBY 8-26TH FEB 2023

ARTIST STATEMENT
From celestial realms to mere weather conditions, clouds are seen as untouchable, always impermanent, floating between the sky and the earth in a perpetual state of stillness and movement. Projecting infinite moods to their exquisite colours and configurations, clouds are of endless fascination to children today as they captivated our childhood imagination in search of familiar shapes.
Inviting one’s unique interpretation of the timeless and unbounded formations of clouds and conveying feelings of wonderment, Forever Clouds instigates many possible layers of meaning: from a self-reflection to a broader collective cognition of the life-changing events we’re facing today, this exhibition also wishes to contemplate on the beauty of our natural environment, while aspiring to preserve it & respect it.
BIO
Working within a strong conceptual framework, Gaia currently utilises a range of mediums, such as sculpture, painting, photography, drawing and textile, to create unique site-specific installations. Within a visionary and playfulness framework, Gaia aims to influence the viewer perception through a physical, emotional and aesthetic experience: unique spaces of reflection, the sacred. Gaia’s art encompasses many layers, feelings and meanings: her main objectives are cultural memories, identity & spirituality, in search for the imperfect balance between abstraction and figurative, the reality and the intangible.
Sydney based artist, Gaia was born in Rome, Italy holding a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a Master of Fine Arts at UNSW Art & Design. As a multi-disciplinary Gaia has exhibited widely in Australia and Internationally exploring the spiritual, physical and emotional connections between humanity and nature.

FOREVER CLOUDS started more than a year ago with a series of en-plain-air drawings gazing at the Australian skies…bringing me back to a childhood dreaming state, I developed a series of studies experimenting with shapes, colours and techniques…my connection with the Divina Conscientia/divine consciousness and the playfulness side of me have merged in a body of work of a series of semi-abstract/closer to minimalistic oil paintings, small sculptures to create a dialogue with the artworks, a video of the making and a digital fabric installation with a creative writing and with a symbolic lightning that teases our perception of reality…in the latter I have integrated few of my original poems both in my native language, Italian, the ancient language of Latin and English: borrowing from the past to make the new, teasing the status quo, playing with perception…
…a subtle golden line: my connection with the Divine, the nature, people close and far, my love of art…my treasure family…my children…special people now living up above the clouds.
