“my art is a celebration of life…I love experimentation, details and the beauty of colours…the simplicity of the composition within the complexity of the mediums…Playfulness is essential in my practice :) inspired by nature, i combine the known with the un-known, in search for an instant of pure joy… ”
– Gaia Starace
Artist Statement
As a multi-disciplinary artist, Gaia focuses on experimental art utilising a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques. Drawing from her classical Italian education in Architecture, Gaia explores the spiritual, physical and emotional connections between humanity and nature. Within a visionary and playfulness framework, Gaia aims to influence the viewer's perception through a physical, emotional and aesthetic experience. In times of uncertainties, Gaia's work wishes to inspire the audience by bringing theme-specific/conceptual art focusing on the detail, the materiality and the meaning.
Tapping into cultural memories, environmental issues & spirituality, Gaia’s work –both in painting and drawing– exists at the boundaries of abstraction, in search for the harmonic relationship between reality and the intangible.
Gaia has exhibited in group exhibitions both in Australia and internationally with her first solo exhibition scheduled for 2023 in Sydney, Australia. Her upcoming site-specific exhibition will include a series of paintings, drawings, sculptures and suspended installation, as well as an interactive activities for the viewer (as her aim is to engage with the audience in a playful experience).
