Solo Exhibition• Painting & Homewares • Video & Journal

Presented at Art Space on The Concourse, Oct 2025, CASA / HOUSE: Interior of Abstract Memories explored the house as both a physical place and an emotional landscape. Through painting and installation, the solo exhibition invited visitors to experience memory, materiality and domestic rituals as interconnected spaces of reflection.

A house is more than a place we inhabit. It is a landscape of accumulated memories, rituals, objects, and light. CASA / HOUSE began as an exploration of the spaces we carry within us. Drawing upon her background in architecture and fine art, Gaia Starace considers the home not simply as a physical structure but as an emotional architecture, where memory quietly shapes our experience of place.

The paintings move between abstraction and suggestion, tracing fragments of rooms, thresholds, windows, gardens, and horizons without describing them directly. Rather than illustrating domestic interiors, the works evoke the atmosphere of remembered spaces: the quality of afternoon light, the rhythm of familiar walls, the silence of an empty room after someone has left. Created through layers of acrylic, charcoal, ink, and oil, the surfaces reveal an ongoing dialogue between construction and erosion, precision and intuition. Architectural thinking provides the underlying structure, while gesture introduces unpredictability, allowing each work to remain open to personal interpretation.

Presented at The Art Space on The Concourse and later at Gang Gang Gallery, CASA / HOUSE became more than a series of paintings. It unfolded as an immersive environment in which painting, ceramics, poetry, and installation converged to question how a home can become a repository of identity, belonging, and cultural memory.

The exhibition marked an important moment within Gaia Starace's multidisciplinary practice, establishing a dialogue between architecture and fine art that continues to evolve through later projects such as Sabbia Residence. Rather than presenting separate disciplines, CASA / HOUSE proposed a way of thinking in which art and interior space are understood as parts of the same lived experience.
